Shaadi presents two simple mechanics for browsing through potential matches. First, you can easily find profiles by using the smart search bar that allows you to filter users based on certain criteria. The search tool has five modes that can filter 24+ criteria for search results. It also features a keyword search option.
The second is its “Matches” option, which shows recommendations based on your preferences. You can also set parameters in the pool of recommended profiles by proximity, exactness to preferences, members whose criteria you meet, among others. After you’ve found the profiles you like, you can shortlist them or show interest in them so you can possibly match with them.
The caveat in Shaadi however is that only premium members can send direct messages to other users. Free accounts can respond to messages initiated by premium members, though. In any event, the interface uses the typical inbox and instant chat features. It also lets you set an online/offline/invisible status. Premium members can call, send emails, and even communicate with other members using WhatsApp.
For paid members, if chats go well they may directly contact their match through other means (SMS/email). Shaadi.com is not exactly the best at connecting its members because of the prerequisite of having a paid membership before being able to strike up conversations, which is an integral process in dating.
